Moving!

Wow, a lot can change in a super short amount of time. Our apartment is super small and closed in. There are no open doorways from one room to the next. Each room is only connected to the hallway. Don't get me wrong, I love this place, but it is simply quite difficult to raise two babies in such a small area. We had planned on staying here, but we recently came across a place (the other half of a duplex that our friends live in) that is only a little more for rent and is bigger.

We saw the place yesterday and we are moving Friday. I already emptied out part of our car trunk. It is happening so fast, it doesn't seem real.

Though we have one month left at our current residence, our new landlord is being very generous and letting us move in early. This way we can have a smoother transition into the new place.

I am very excited, but sad too because I have so many happy memories here. It is my home that I have grown to love. We have lived here for most of our marriage- just looking around the rooms reminds me of countless happy times. However, I know having more space to move around in will be worth it. Granted, it is not TONS bigger, but it will suffice for what we need over the next few months.

Little owls

I have been getting pretty sentimental about Katherine getting bigger. I have been going through her old clothes to see what can leave. At the same time I have been planning on making some little stuffed toys for her. It suddenly occurred to me that I should use some of her old clothes to make them. It would not only be free, but something that would be more special to me to her.

I get sad holding these old clothes, haha.
I traced the shapes that I wanted to use.
I am not going to give a detailed explanation of what I did as it is pretty straightforward. Cut out the shapes, sew them together and bang. I used the shredded remains of the clothing to stuff the toys with.
These might look more like birds than owls, but hey.

And then Katherine blissfully carried them around the room for the next hour. Actually, I had to keep handing them to her to take pictures because she was having more fun dropping them off the chair. Sigh. She will like them more when she is older, haha.

Tea organization

Scene: Friend visiting our house
Me: Would you like a cup of tea?
Friend: Sure.
Me: What kind? We have .... (forgets all because we have so many). Uh, why don't you just look. (Opens cabinet door)
Friend looks in cluttered cabinet, dismayed. Does not wish to rummage so chooses closest variety in sight.
Friend: Uh, I'll take this one.

Sound familiar? Well, for me it is common enough. I don't even know all of the tea that is in my cabinet. Upon looking at it this afternoon, I had this idea.

I simply cut out the front of each of the boxes (to identify the variety) and put in a plastic bag with the tea. This not only saves tons of space, but guests can now easily flip through my tea basket to make a selection.

Vintage 50's dress and pinafore for Katherine.

I seriously scored today. I went to my favorite shop in town and got Katherine two vintage dresses and a pinafore for about $9.00 total. The dresses for sure at least from the fifties. I am not sure about the pinafore, but it probably was too. Both dresses were in perfect condition. I took pictures of one of the dresses with the removable pinafore.

As you can see, she had a good time.

Ah! Shield my eyes! The cuteness is killing me.

I will put up pictures of the other dress sometime as well. I also got two vintage fifties dresses for myself. Woot! Both were super cheap and look modern enough to be worn today without looking out of place.

Cheap cloth diapers (sort of)

I am a subscriber to Zullily deals. I am sure most of you are too. I have to admit, I usually ignore my daily deal email from them, but I actually looked at it today. If any of you are into all in one cloth diapers, you can get Fuzzibunz for 12.99 today. Personally, that is still pricey for me, but for all in ones it is a good price.

here

You can also get these cute pea-coats for girls. I wish I could find Katherine a well priced pea-coat in her size. These start at 4t.

29.99
23.99
I would recommend joining Zulilly as some very great deals do come through. They often have nursing and maternity clothes as well. I am not saying this just because I get credit if people sign up using my link; I genuinely like this company. If you want to join, you have to sign up first. It is a pain, but you only have to do it once.
